ZHS makes a ‘circus’ out of prom

The Zimmerman High School prom April 12 featured 222 students amid a fun-filled circus theme. Prom-goers started with the Grand March in the gym – transformed with decorations of twinkling lights, flowing banners, a carousel and a red carpet.

Afterward, they traveled to the Northern Lights Ballroom and Banquet Center in Pease for appetizers, dinner, dessert and dancing until midnight.

During the Grand March, each couple or group emerged from a whimsical lighted Ferris wheel and then strolled in a spotlight across the darkened floor as music played and a big crowd cheered.

Each $65 prom ticket included food, facility rental, music, decorations, a photo booth and a caricature artist as well as cotton candy and a souvenir prom cup. Photos by Debbie Griffin

Students walking in the prom Grand March were staged in two different areas, the final “lineup” taking place in the hallway outside the varsity gym. Rayann Gabrielson, left, stands at the door with prom adviser Katie Thomas as the next group of students waits to go in for the Grand March, led in front by Jordan Novotny and Caitlyn Lokhorst. Making the Grand March together, left to right, are Alexus Petersen, Brandi Harris and Brittany McArthur. Lance Lefebvre and Lindsey Peterson escorted each other on the red carpet of the Zimmerman High School Grand March before prom. Crowds spilled out of the gym following the Grand March, and lots of families took pictures before the students departed to the dinner and dancing event. Pictured are Pfc. Micky Harrington and McKayla Willis. Allyson Brazier was among many girls who shed their high-heeled shoes shortly after finishing the formal Grand March. Some groups of prom-goers piled into limousines for travel to and from dinner and dancing; many drove themselves in a special car or truck. Posing for a pre-departure picture are, left to right, Austin Tretbar, Anna Ruel, Hunter Smith, Daenon Bronken, Nick Hasslen, Anne Rademacher, (turned couple), Evan Langston, Sam Karnes, Austin May and Jamie Pensinger. Recently crowned prom king Patrick Liedl and queen Ally Sterneman emerge from the Grand March, joining in the hallway, left to right, Carly Swan, Collin Ashley and Hadassah Early.
