Hassan Elementary
Students at Hassan Elementary School have gone batty. “Batty for Books,” that is, for I love to Read Month. Students there have been challenged to meet reading goals for the week. They vary by grade level from 30 minutes to 140 minutes a week. Students who reach their reading goal each week sign a classroom bat, which gets hung on the lunchroom bulletin boards to celebrate all the students who met their weekly goals. In addition, each week a student completes his or her reading goal, he or she earns a treat called bugamallows. They come from the book “Bats at the Library” written by the school’s 2012 visiting author/illustrator, Brian Lies. The author will be visiting Hassan students again Monday, March 26. Students above are in one of two reading tents at the school.
