The Useful Art of Pickling

Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 12 and 13, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oliver Kelley Farm, 15788 Kelley Farm Road, Elk River. In the 19th century, pickles provided families with a variety of foods and flavors to help them survive the long winter months. Today, pickles are a condiment for hamburgers and picnics. Explore and sample historic and modern pickling in the historic Kelley Farm kitchen and the new visitor center learning kitchen. Visitors can also make a jar of refrigerator pickles to take home for $2 per jar. Cost: Included with site admission of $12 adults, $10 seniors and college students, $6 ages 5-17, free age 4 and under and Minnesota Historical Society members. 763-441-6896 or [email protected]
