Wesley “Wes” R. Cottrell

Wesley Richard Cottrell of Elk River passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at the age of 84.
Wes was born October 8, 1932 in Sandstone, MN to Cecil and Mabel Cottrell. Upon graduation from Willow River High School, Wes worked combine runs with various farms in the Midwest, as a machinist, and as a maintenance worker at Totino’s. In all that Wes did, he was admired for having a strong work ethic and a tremendous sense of humor.
On April 9, 1960, Wes married the “love of his life,” Darlene Johnson. During their 57 years of marriage, their commitment and love for one another was undeniable as they enjoyed such simple pleasures as gardening, bird watching, and reading. They were blessed with three daughters.

A gifted storyteller, Wes would regale his family, friends and even strangers with uplifting stories from his past and present alike. It was important to him to be a day brightener for the people with which he interacted.
Wes was preceded in death by both parents and two brothers.
