Off-leash dog park coming to Big Lake Township

Big Lake Township will become home to an off-leash dog park.

The Sherburne County Board of Commissioners approved the use of park dedication funds for its construction.

Big Lake Township had submitted a request for the money to be used at Lions Park in the amount of $8,950.

Park dedication fees are collected at a rate of $800 per lot. Three-fourths of the money raised must be spent within the township it comes from for acquisition, development or improvement of parks, recreational facilities, playgrounds, trails, wetlands or open space.

Big Lake Township has a fund balance of $8,400, which the project will be limited to unless more funds become available before the completion of construction and final invoice submittal.

Lions Park is 49-acre park located at 21960 County Road 5. The township will pay to maintain the dog park.
