Last year: 6-3
Coaches: Marc Franz (head), Matt Webb, Jeremy Hood, Jeff Petersen, David Tilton, Tim Nelson, Ben Greener, John Daiker, Dillon Schullo, Addison Tackmann, Ken Worel, Justin Oie, Jake Olson, Dustin Sluzewicz, Austin Barbeln, Rob Lehmann, Bert Sepulveda, Ryan Donnay, Matt Houselog
Returning starters: Thomas Anderson, Jon Krumsieg, Carter Satter, Travis Sinclair, Eli Soberg
Coach says: “We are returning five starters (three on the offensive line and two on defensive line), so we will begin building from the lines. A number of other underclassmen played significant roles last year, although they were not starters.”
Outlook: Expect to be very competitive at the district, section and state level.
Last year: 12-6-1
Coaches: Aaron Lindquist (head), Todd Dusosky, Tyler Tallaksen, Kristina Taggart
Captains: Cassidy Lehrke, Claire Swan, Cailey Henderson, Emily Kilby
Returning starters: Lehrke, Morgan Duvall, Sami Scherling, Ella Achterkirch, Isabel Quintavalle, Swan, Henderson, Kilby
Coach says: “Many players return who played major minutes last season on a section finalist team. ‘Gotta Wanna’ is our team theme this year. We must prove that during every training session, in our game preparation and within games themselves to accomplish our team goals.”
Outlook: Losing a starter since her freshman year, Kate Heimer, will be tough to replace in midfield. However, senior leadership with competition from underclassman should push the team in training and on the field. Have met STMA in section finals last three seasons and would expect section competition, and conference competition, to be better this year.
Last year: 4-13
Coaches: Chris Miller (head), Dan Westpetal, Bruce Schulzetenberg
Captains: Nate Baccam, Bjorn Charles, Wes Kaeter
Returning contributers: Baccam, Chalres, Kaeter, Noah Pedersen. Ethan Pedersen, Zac Ferrell, Braedon Mittelstaedt
Coach says: “I think we’re going to have a good season. We have just the right amount of returning players from last year, and the guys that are filing into holes are experienced guys that have kind of come into their own over the last couple of years. The good thing is is all these guys have kind of played together in years past, they should mesh pretty good together.”
Outlook: The Royals believe they have an opportunity to turn some heads this year as they head into the season with a lot of experience, and not having to rely on too much youth.
Last year: The boys were fourth in their conference and 10th in their section, while the girls were seventh in their conference and 12th in their section.
Coaches: Margaret Litchy (head), Kristi Anderson
Returning contributers: Ethan Anderson, Chet Jurrens, Alex Heidorn, Ellie Cargill, Nicole Beutz
Also in the mix: Semus Corkery, Anna Eich
Coach says: “I am impressed with the work some athletes have put in over the summer. The attendance list for summer running has reached 39 athletes, most coming on a regular or semi-regular basis. Coach Kreuser did a wonderful job of building the team and I am inheriting a strong young group of talented athletes.”
Outlook: The Royals are looking to have both teams finish in the top 10 at sections this season.
Girls swim and dive
Last year: The team finished 4-3 in their conference and fourth in their section.
Coaches: Janelle Moore (head), Stacie Brown, Christine Kemper
Captains: Beth Kelzer, Kenzie Otkin, Hannah Finstad
Returning contributers: Kelzer, Amber Secrist, Andie Timpe, Abbi Northuis, Hannah Finstad
Coach says: “The Rogers Royals girls swim and dive team are a good group of hard-working and committed young women, and it is my pleasure to coach them. Our senior leaders of Anna Dulski, Hannah Finstad, Beth Kelzer, Kenzie Otkin, Megan Otten, and Meghan Schaeffer bring years of experience to share with their teammates as we continue to grow our swim and dive program. Swimming and diving are unique where as we need every swimmer and diver to perform in order for our team to be successful, and I know every girl on our roster is committed to improving our team’s performance at each meet.”
Outlook: The Royals have every opportunity to improve on their conference record and move up in the section.
Last year: 9-16
Coaches: Geoff Basham (head), Sam Okland
Captains: Paetyn Levis. Emily Rubbelke
Returning starters: Levis, Rubbelke, Samantha Stickler, Abby Johnson, Maggie Wuollet, Anna Luksik, Britney Nguyen, Rachel Davidson
Coach says: “Our strength this season is going to be our depth. We look to add another 10 or more players to the program as a whole and we are very young. Many of the girls were very dedicated to improving their game over the summer by attending camps, playing tournaments and doing lessons. The courts all summer long had players from the program on them!”
Outlook: “The Royals graduated four seniors that were all All-Conference and had a combined 17 years of varsity experience so the top of the lineup is up for grabs in both singles and doubles. We look to be competitive again in all of our team matches with a commitment to sound doubles play and smart singles tactics.”
Last year: 18-11
Coaches: T.J. Canham (head), Scott Arcand
Returning seniors: Jenna Patterson, Alexa Brown, Karla Scherber, Grace Maurer, Claire Bode, Sam Orth, Anna Kiffmeyer
Coach says: “Four returning starters, but a wide-open field of players looking to make that lineup. Should be very equal playing field trying out this year.”
Outlook: Hoping to finish deeper in sections than last year.
