Hearth building new senior housing

Little Canada-based Hearth Development has started work on its newest site, a 98-unit senior living community just east of Highway 169 in Elk River. The project is being built by Nottingham Construction (a Hearth Development affiliate) and was designed by Bloomington-based Kaas Wilson Architects. The community will offer independent senior rental, assisted living, and memory care services.

Builders are well along in constructing new senior housing in Elk River near Abra Auto Body and Wal-Mart. A ceremonial groundbreaking was held last month by Hearth Development.

will offer 74 independent/assisted living apartments in a variety of unit styles ranging from studios to two bedroom/two bathroom units. Each of these units will feature kitchens with full-size appliances, nine-foot ceilings, bathrooms with walk-in showers, storage and in-floor radiant heat. Most units include in-unit laundry and dishwashers, while many feature walk-in closets and balconies. Residents have the option to move in independently and add services as they may need them down the line — no need to move to another apartment should one need assisted living services in the future.

Elk River Senior Living will also feature underground heated parking, a restaurant-style dining room serving three daily meals, community room and deck, screened porch, theater, fitness room, craft room, hobby shop, bistro with daily snacks and beverages, library, club room and on-site salon. Not only will these spaces host the many daily activities offered, but almost all of them (plus a private dining room) will be available for residents to host their own private gatherings.

The secure memory care neighborhood will feature 24 private apartments in a variety of studio and one-bedroom styles. Along with offering a day room and dining area, the neighborhood will feature an enclosed outdoor patio area so residents can safely enjoy the outdoors. Specialized memory care programming will be offered designed to promote social interaction, stimulate memory, and provide comfort and security for those with memory loss and dementia.
