Four teens cited for minor consumption
Four teens were cited for minor consumption of alcohol after police pulled over their vehicle for speeding.
The traffic stop happened at 8:52 p.m. July 16 at Highway 169 and 197th Avenue in Elk River. An officer stopped the vehicle for going 77 mph in a 55 mph zone and discovered the passengers in the vehicle had been drinking. Two Elk River men, both 19, and two Zimmerman girls, both 17, were cited for minor consumption and the parents of the juvenile girls were contacted.
The driver, an Elk River man, 18, was only cited for speeding.
Man cited for having marijuana in vehicle
A Coon Rapids man, 22, was cited for having a small amount of marijuana in a motor vehicle after he was pulled over for having a brake light out. The traffic stop happened at 12:08 a.m. July 15 at Highway 10 and Highway 169 in Elk River.
Cars collide as geese cross road
Two vehicles collided after one slowed down to allow geese to cross the road.
The crash was reported at 7:41 a.m. July 14.
An Anoka woman, 40, had been traveling west on 181st Avenue just east of Johnson Street in Elk River when she slowed down for the geese and was rear-ended by a vehicle driven by a Ramsey woman, 20. Both drivers were evaluated by Elk River Ambulance and refused transport, according to the police report.
Police search for vehicle in sideswipe
At 5:18 a.m. July 19, the Minnesota State Patrol requested assistance from the Elk River Police Department in an attempt to locate a vehicle traveling south on Highway 169 entering the Elk River city limits. The vehicle had sideswiped another vehicle while traveling on the roadway.
A police officer checked the area and was unable to locate the vehicle. The State Patrol later advised that it had been located at Kwik Trip near Highway 101 and County Road 37 in Otsego.
Stargazing on the side of the road
While patrolling the area near Ranch Road and Proctor Road at 12:54 a.m. July 17, an Elk River police officer came upon a vehicle and two people lying on the shoulder of the road. A third party was across the road. They were taking pictures of the stars and waiting for the Northern Lights, according to the police report. The officer advised them of a safe spot to sit.
