The Mizuno Northern Lights 18-Black team took third in the 18-Club division. Erin Davis (center front) and Nissa Johnson (top row, third from right) are both from Elk River.

Two volleyball players with ties to Elk River recently participated in the AAU National Championships in Orlando, Florida.

Erin Davis and Nissa Johnson were on the Mizuno Northern Lights 18-Black team that placed third in the 18-Club division. The girls went 11-1 during the competition, falling to the eventual champion, who hailed from Puerto Rico, in the semifinals.

Both Davis and Johnson have been with the club for three years, though this is the first year they were on the same team. In 2015, Davis placed second in the AAU National Championships with her Mizuno Northern Lights 16-White team.

Davis will be returning to Elk River for her senior season after playing libero for the Elks a year ago, while Johnson will be moving on to the next stage in her volleyball career – Valley City State University in North Dakota.
