Trip to St. Paul worthwhile

We are residents of Zimmerman. We recently traveled to St. Paul to participate in the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network’s Day at the Capitol, where we met with our local lawmakers to talk about the issues important to our community.

ACS CAN is working on several initiatives at the Capitol this year, all designed with cancer patients and their families in mind. We really hope Minnesota legislation agrees to preserve funding for a community wellness program called the Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP).

Zimmerman and Westwood Elementary Schools have a yearly walkathon that supports SHIP’s goal to improve community and school health by encouraging more physical activity. Our second-grader loves this event and it has raised a lot of money for the two schools.

Meeting with our local representatives was a great way to let them know what issues matter to our community. Thank you Speaker of the House Kurt Daudt for making time to meet with us. — Jay and Cory Whiting, ACS CAN volunteers, Zimmerman
