Both the boys and girls basketball teams were defeated on Thursday, Dec. 8, for the Spectrum Sting.

The girls traveled to Mora to take on the Mustangs, but were defeated 47-53. It is their third loss in a row after starting the season with a 55-15 victory.

Lorna Bechtel and Jessie Hansen led the Sting in scoring, scoring 13 points a piece. They were also the top-2 rebounders for the Sting Thursday night, with Bechtel hauling in 14 and Hansen getting eight of her own.

The Sting actually led the Mustangs at halftime, but poor free-throw shooting in the second half would be their downfall.

“The free throws were big, along with making close range shots”, said head coach Cory Hund.  “We need to settle down a bit.  We were really pressing on our shots.”

The girls next game is Thursday, Dec. 15, when they host Christian Life Academy.  Tip off is set for 7:00 pm.

The boys were coming off their first win of the season, but could not sustain the success as they lost to Brooklyn Center 55-88.

Cole Elrod led the Sting with 17 points, and was followed up by Travis Bondy and Kelton Sundstrom – who had 13 a piece.

The next game for the Sting will be Saturday, Dec. 10, at 2:00 pm at Holy Family Catholic.
