Elk River police report: Suspect took ‘shoebox’ items meant for children in need

A male suspect and his girlfriend reportedly took items from an Operation Christmas Child box that had been dropped off at an Elk River church by a donor.
The theft was reported to police on Nov. 15. The box had been dropped off at Central Lutheran. Police are looking into the matter.
Operation Christmas Child is a international project where people donate shoeboxes filled with school supplies, hygiene items and toys for delivery to children in need around the world.

After 5 miles, police quit chasing bike
An attempt to stop a motorcycle for speeding was aborted after a short chase.
An officer had attempted to stop the white sport bike on northbound Highway 169 near the 21600 block in Elk River about 3:50 p.m. Nov. 12. When the motorcycle failed to stop, police chased it for nearly 5 miles before the supervisor on duty had the officer discontinue the pursuit, according to Elk River Police Capt. Bob Kluntz.
The bike was last seen traveling north from 273rd Avenue.

Police witness dispute over a baby stroller
Police who responded to a domestic ended up mediating an argument over a baby stroller.
Officers were initially called to the 500 block of Fifth Street in Elk River at 10:34 p.m. Nov. 10 on a report of a domestic.
A woman told police her boyfriend pulled her hair after an argument and she wanted him removed from the apartment.
The man denied the allegation but agreed to leave. He planned to take his belongings and move out.
A second argument began while officers were there because the man didn’t want to give his girlfriend a baby stroller because he needed it for his new baby that is being born next month to another woman.
He eventually gave her the stroller, got his items and left.

Pills taken from client at counseling center
A client at Riverplace Counseling Center, 9816 Highway 10, Elk River, reported the theft of 60 Tramadol prescription pills.
The theft was reported to police on Nov. 10.
Tramadol is an opioid pain medication.

Firefighters put out mulch fire at business
A mulch fire was reported at 2:16 a.m. Nov. 10 at CST Distribution in Elk River.
The Elk River Fire Department put out the 20-foot-by-20-foot fire, which was located in a mulch pile outside the business in the 11500 block of 205th Avenue.

Power tools missing from unlocked van
Power tools valued at $1,800 are missing after a thief entered an unlocked work van and stole them.
The theft happened between 5 p.m. Nov. 13 and 5 a.m. Nov. 14 in the 17000 block of Grant Circle in Elk River.

Theft reported by Elk River gas station
The control box to the automatic wash at Charlie Brown’s, 335 Lowell Ave. in Elk River, was broken open on Nov. 13 and money was reported stolen.
Missing is about $375 in bills and change. Several thousand dollars worth of damage was done to the control box mechanism.

Police arrest man, 26, for DWI after stop
A Columbia Heights man, 26, was arrested for second-degree DWI and third-degree test refusal after he was stopped for speeding.
Police pulled the vehicle over in the 500 block of Jackson Avenue in Elk River at 11:01 p.m. Nov. 8. The vehicle was towed to the Police Department subject to forfeiture.

Woman reports theft of diamond ring
A diamond ring has been reported stolen from an Elk River home located in the 10000 block of 181st Circle.
The theft was reported Nov. 7.
