About the Trainer’s Challenge: The competition consists of five different classes. The highlight is the freestyle class, where the horse and trainer exhibit any “special,” secret abilities the horse has been trained for. The Trainer’s Challenge of the Unwanted Horse is presented by the Minnesota Hooved Animal Rescue Foundation in Zimmerman. Horses in the Trainer’s Challenge come from that organization as well as This Old Horse in Hastings and Truhaven Ranch in Winstead. The Trainer’s Challenge was started in 2008 to provide training for the horses to make them more adoptable. The event also helps show that horses from equine rescues are every bit as good as other horses, and it provides a showcase for trainers, both amateur and professional.
