Baseball: Pioneers lose two at Grand Rapids; face Isanti in playoff opener

The Elk River Pioneers lost twice at Grand Rapids over the weekend, closing the regular season with a 7-11 record.

Grand Rapids thumped the Pioneers 18-8 with Jake Carter driving home five runs and Lance Latula pitching all seven innings. Jim Brown took the loss for the Pioneers. Sam Krick and Brandon Meyer each had three hits.

The hosts completed the sweep 8-4 with Grant Carlise pitching. Reid Hollum was 3-for-4 with two RBI. Jordan Hollom took the loss. Harley Thompson had two hits and three RBI for the Pioneers.

North Star League playoffs will begin Friday. The Pioneers face Isanti in a best 2-of-3 next weekend. The opener Friday evening at Isanti starts 8 p.m. The games Saturday and (if necessary) Sunday at Elk River will start 3 p.m.
