A Big Lake man was arrested Sunday following a six-hour standoff with law enforcement.
According to Sherburne County Sheriff Joel Brott, deputies were called to the 17400 block of 165th Street in Big Lake Township shortly after 7 a.m. for a neighborhood dispute involving a 47-year-old man.
Sheriff’s deputies encountered the man carrying his shotgun toward a neighbor’s home after telling 911 dispatchers that he allegedly planned on shooting his neighbor. The man fled back into his home and the standoff began.
Neighbors were evacuated and tactical teams from the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office and Elk River Police Department responded while telephone negotiations continued. Just before 10 p.m., the man surrendered to police without further incident. He was being held at the Sherburne County Jail in Elk River pending a court appearance for terroristic threats.
Officers from the State Patrol, Big Lake Police, and Becker Police assisted and no one was injured during the incident.
