The second annual Forever Young Fun Run in memory of Kelsey Daulton will be held Sunday, Aug. 3, at Meadowvale Elementary.
Daulton, who was an Elk soccer star, “lived a spirited 19 years and accomplished many things on and off the field,” said her mother, Kathy, but also “struggled with mental illness since childhood, and unfortunately this played a part in her life ending much too early.”
Noting that Kelsey’s mission was to help others, make people feel good and live to the fullest, Kathy said proceeds are donated to Central Minnesota Mental Health Center and Elk River CAER Food Shelf.
“Our mission is to advocate for children who struggle with mental health issues,” said Daulton, “and support the families that struggle alongside their loved ones.”
Last year, Daulton said, funds raised were focused on ages 13-19 at the Mental Health Center. They established quick access for assessment and therapy, with help in applying for insurance and other medical assistance, while collaborating with schools, social services and other providers. Funds were also used to pay outstanding therapy bills, and four purchasing resources for the adolescent chemical dependency program at the center in Buffalo.
“We hope you will consider joining us on Aug. 3,” said Daulton, “or if you can’t, please consider giving to the cause.”
