The Elk River Pioneers snapped a six-game losing streak by defeating the Big Lake Whitecaps 10-7 on Wednesday in Big Lake.
The Pioneers (5-7) drew 14 walks in the seven-inning game, and nine of their 10 runs got aboard via walks. Big Lake, meanwhile, drew eight walks, for a total of 22 in the game.
The Pioneers and starter Zach Pechtell had a 7-0 lead before the Whitecaps scored two in the fourth and four in the fifth. Porter Morrell relieved in the fifth. With the score 7-6 and two men on base, he was able to end the inning by picking a runner off second base.
In the sixth, Tucker Morrell slapped a two-run single that capped a three-run inning to make the score 10-6. Micah Loegering of the Whitecaps walked four batters and wild-pitched one run home in that inning.
Pechtell (3-0) got the win and Brandon Meyer had a two-run double for the Pioneers.
Dalton Hesley, Big Lake starter, took the loss. Josh Ledin hit a solo homer while Hesley and Travis Palm each knocked in two runs.
The Pioneers will play at Albertville on Sunday, 5 p.m.
