Gloria Jenson and Greta Ege, who’ve won individual titles previously, captured their first pairs championship at the Companions Classic.
They aggregated a 204 in the Elk River Golf Club event Saturday and Sunday, prevailing among nine women’s teams, by a two-stroke margin.
“We ham-and-egged it pretty well,” said Ege. “On holes were I has issues, Gloria came through, and on holes when she had issues, I managed … We just stuck it out and kept chucking.”
Jenson, of Elk River (formerly of Zimmerman), has nabbed two club championships, after taking up golf more avidly when her kids graduated and left home.
Ege, who has won low net at the club tourney, is a 20-year member of ERGC and plays league on both Monday and Tuesday. “I do love golf,” she said.
Jenson’s 86 and Ege’s 89 on Sunday were also the two lowest gross scores.
Tying for second place, each with 206, were the Melissa Jackson and Amy Lord team, and the Brenda Walz and Nikki Hammernick team.
Jensen and Ege paired last year and took second.
“We’ll do it again next year,” said Jensen, meaning be partners again and try repeat.
The format was using the better score on each hole Saturday, and net scores on Sunday.
The Companions Classic is one of the top two events at ERGC each year, along with the club championships slated for September.
