Elk River Legion lost four games at the Gopher State Tournament before closing with a victory Sunday.
The Elks (8-11) beat Tri-City Red 9-3 with Levi Burke tossing a five-hitter for his first Legion win. He stuck out six and walked five. Riley Givens went 3-for-4 with three RBI’s and Austin Heuer 2-for-3 with two RBI’s.
On Friday, the Elks lost twice, to Shakopee 2-0 with Alex Babcock pitching well in defeat, and to Armstrong 11-3 with Heuer taking the loss, backed by shaky defense. Their scheduled game Saturday was rained out. Earlier Sunday, the Elks lost to Armstrong 8-2 with Joe Gonrowski taking the loss.
The games were played at Totino-Grace in Fridley and at Mounds View.
Givens and Hauer were each 5-for-14, Ben Boutain 4-for-13 and Erik Nyquist 4-for-14 in the tournament. Givens led with five RBI’s and made all the plays at second base.
The Elks will wrap up the regular season playing at Champion Park on Tuesday and hosting Armstrong on Wednesday, both 6:15 p.m.
