• Mailbox bombs, theft from vehicles and other seasonal crimes reported
A 42-year-old Elk River man reported June 26 that his mailbox in the 19000 block of Proctor Road was damaged from a chemical “bomb.” There were no suspects at time of the report.
Vehicle tampered with on Auburn
A 40-year-old Elk River woman reported June 25 that her vehicle was tampered with in the 19000 block of Auburn Street. She called after finding her unlocked vehicle with the glove compartment and center console open with items scattered on the floor. Nothing appeared to be missing or damaged.
Trailer broken into
A 65-year-old Forest Lake man reported June 25 that someone broke into his trailer in the 18700 block of Troy Street. An unknown suspect cut the screen and broke the left rear window to the trailer, allowing entry. The complainant reported electronics, keys and bedding were stolen. Total amount of loss was unknown at the time of the report but believed to be more than $600.
Witnesses described a suspicious male and female in a red F-150 truck in the area during the time of the incident. Witnesses were going to forward cellphone video of the possible suspects.
Basketballs, pump and shoes taken
A 21-year-old Elk River man reported June 27 a theft from his locked vehicle in the 19500 block of Vernon Street.
The vehicle was not damaged. A pair of basketball shoes, two basketballs and a basketball pump were taken from the vehicle.
Bike patrolman makes arrest
An officer on bicycle patrol issued a citation for possession of a controlled substance June 26 after he spotted a jar of marijuana in the truck of a vehicle parked in the Wal-Mart parking lot. A 24-year-old Elk River man was cited and forced to forfeit some cash.Filmmakers become suspicious persons
Three juvenile males, all from Elk River, were warned on June 25 after they were caught filming a movie in a house under construction in the 19000 block of Dodge Street.
An anonymous caller reported that some juveniles were inside of a house under construction in the 19000 block of Dodge Street. Upon arrival, the juveniles, ages 10-14, were located in the house and spoken to. They told police they were “filming a scary movie” with cellphones.
The officer, who warned the youth for their actions, checked inside of the residence and found no damage.
Stolen golf clubs, bag recovered
A 49-year-old Elk River woman reported on June 25 someone entered her husband’s vehicle and stole some items while it was parked in their driveway in the 19000 block of Vernon Street.
Suspects stole a golf bag and clubs from the vehicle. Description of the bag and clubs matched that of one that was recovered earlier that morning.
Explosives damage man’s mailbox
A 69-year-old Elk River man reported June 25 that his mailbox in the 11000 block of 195th Avenue was damaged by explosives.
The complainant reported hearing a sound similar to a gunshot between 10 and 11 p.m. the night before. Upon arrival an officer observed the complainant’s black plastic mailbox had severe damage from what appeared to be a blast pressure wave from within the mailbox. On the ground in the area, there was a green 1-liter bottle that had exploded..
The officer also observed several chunks of tin foil in the mailbox and surrounding area. The blast wave blew the front and rear doors approximately 15 feet from the mailbox and split the plastic mailbox down the center, along with cracking the sides. The damage appeared to have been caused by a “works bomb.”
IPod stolen from car
A 26-year-old Elk River man reported June 25 that his iPod was stolen from his unlocked vehicle in the 19000 block of Auburn Street. He said the pickup was parked along the boulevard in front of his home at the time of the theft. Several other vehicles in the driveway were also entered.
Work trailer break-in reported
A 56-year-old Oak Grove man reported June 25 that items were stolen from a work trailer in the 10000 block of 179th Avenue.
The complainant reported someone broke into his work trailer and stole a generator and air compressor. No suspect information was available at the time of the call.
Electronics stolen from vehicle
A 29-year-old Elk River man reported June 25 the theft of electronics from his vehicle in the 19000 block of Zane Court.
The victim’s unlocked vehicle was entered overnight and property was stolen. Several other neighbors also reported thefts, too.
Theft creates paper trail
A 48-year-old Elk River man reported on June 25 someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole a bag of paperwork from his vehicle in the 19000 block of Vernon Street.
The suspect, police reported, had been smoking and caused a couple of burn holes on the front passenger seat. No suspect information was available when the report was filed.
Road rage leads to charge of assault
A 42 -year-old Elk River man was charged with assault after a road rage incident on June 29. The man allegedly struck another motorist following a disagreement over a driving incident.
The victim followed the suspect after the assault in the 300 block of Main Street until officers located him at the Orono Softball Complex. The suspect was cited with assault and disorderly conduct.
