The Highway 10 bridge over Lake Orono in Elk River is scheduled to be replaced in 2017.
The project is estimated to cost around $10 million.
“We’ve known that this was due for a replacement. We’ve had it in our long-term funding program, and then we pulled it into the 10-year plan and now we’re pulling it into the four-year funding cycle. We’ve been budgeting for it all along,” said Claudia Dumont, project manager for the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The original bridge was built in 1941.
The bridge was widened in 1983. Coincidentally, Dumont said she was in college at the time and worked in construction on that bridge project.
