Tennis: Haack wins singles, Creelman/Hermanson take doubles in NWSC tourney

Elk River tennis teammates Jordan Haack and Tyler Creelman met twice in championship matches and came away with a split at the Northwest Suburban Conference tournament in Elk River.

Haack, senior-to-be, defeated Creelman 6-1, 6-3 in the singles finals, winning a competition of 17 entrants, on Tuesday. To reach the finals, Haack beat Dylan Fyle 6-0, 6-3; Kevin Heller 6-0, 6-2; and Tanner Hermanson 6-1, 6-2.

Creelman, sophomore-to-be, teamed with Hermanson to win the doubles crown on Monday. They edged Haack and Derek Williams 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 in the finals to prevail among 10 entrants.

Hermanson and Williams are also current Elks.

This is the second of six NWSC tournaments in June and July, each hosted by a different conference member, to provide playerswith a low-cost tournament, just $8 and a can of tennis balls to enter. Elk River will host a girls NWSC tournament June 7-8.

Of 17 singles entrants, nine were from Elk River.

Williams won the third-place match in singles over Hermanson 6-7, 7-6, 6-4. The consolation winner (a tournament for first-round losers) was Fyle.

Levi Duwenhoegger and Devi Crowe placed third in doubles, with Andrew Tang and Jason Feng taking consolation honors.
