Josh Juntunen pitched well for the Elk River Pioneers for the second straight game and this one resulted in a victory on Wednesday evening.
Juntenen struck out 10, walked none and allowed just three hits in a 3-0, seven-inning shutout of the Albertville Villains at home.
His previous outing, Juntunen had a rough first inning but blanked St. Francis after that in a 5-1 loss, striking out nine, Friday evening.
Meanwhile, Brandon Meyer ripped three of the Pioneers’ seven hits, all line drives, and drove home the first run of the game, following a double by Porter Morrell in the third inning.
It was Meyer’s first game with the Pioneers after helping the high school team place fifth in the state.
Harley Thompson had a double and walk in three trips and scored two runs for the Pioneers.
Henry Berning pitched all six innings for Albertville, striking out six.
Next for the Pioneers (3-1) is a weekend tournament at Gaylord Arlington. They will meet Savage at Arlington on Friday, 8:45 p.m. On Saturday, they’ll play at 2:15 p.m. if they lose, or 8:15 p.m. if they win.
