Bates places 4th in NCAA 5,000 meters after winning the 10,000

Elk River native Emma Bates finished fourth in the NCAA  5,000 meter race Saturday afternoon in Eugene, Ore., two days after winning the 10,000 meter championship.

The Boise State redshirt junior ran a 15:51.87 and recorded the ninth All-America honor of her track and cross country career, three of them in the 5,000.

The top-three finishers — Marielle Hall of Texas, Aisling Cuffe of Stanford, and Abbey D’Agostino of Dartmouth—  did not participate in the 10,000 on Thursday.

The Bronco women placed eighth in team standings, their best finish.
