City plans to launch July 4 fireworks — with public’s help

As you may know, the committee that has put on the Fourth of July event the last few years has disbanded.

The city of Elk River has stepped in to try to fill some of the void. It means that, yes, there will be fireworks on the Fourth.

They will be fired off from the varsity football field as has been done the last few years. There will be no other organized events on the Fourth other than the fireworks.

The city is making a contribution similar to what it has in the past for the Fourth of July. That leaves about a $5,000 gap that has to be raised to ensure that the awesome fireworks display that we are accustomed to will happen.

I am asking for citizens and businesses of the community to step up and help raise the additional funds. If everyone does a little, we will quickly reach our goal.

Your donation check should be made out to: City of Elk River-Fireworks and mailed to 13065 Orono Parkway, Elk River, MN 55330. Donations are typically deductible, but please consult with your tax adviser on your donation.

Fireworks on the Fourth has been a long-standing tradition in Elk River, one that I would like to see continue well into the future. It is something for residents of all ages to enjoy.  I hope you will consider helping us keep that tradition alive. — Elk River Mayor John Dietz
