Letter to the editor: Newspaper makes a difference

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I cannot tell you how much I truly appreciate your honoring my request to publish the Honor Guards Memorial Day schedule for the cemetery visitations on the front page of the Star News. Wow! That was beautiful! You truly made our citizens aware of the day. Your paper does make a difference. It was very apparent, as there was standing room only, if you did not bring a chair!

I also wish to thank you for publishing the program of the Memorial Day Ceremony.

The front page of the May 24, 2014, edition is a real keeper. In my opinion, the story of Vietnam veteran Ed Specht was very appropriate, especially after reading about the Elk River protestor’s actions earlier this year.

Thank you so much for making this Memorial Day such a special day to honor our fallen heroes. With God’s help, we shall continue to be the land of the free and the home of the brave. — Lola Driessen, Elk River
