Tennis: Elks seeded third, face SC Tech at state

The Elk River tennis team is seeded No. 3 in the state tournament and will open against St. Cloud Tech, a team they’ve beaten 5-2.

Quarterfinals pairings (and seeds) Tuesday at the University of Minnesota are:

(1) Mounds View vs. East Ridge at 8 a.m.
(4) Minnetonka vs. (5) Rochester Mayo at 10 a.m.
(2) Wayzata vs. Mahtomedi at noon
(3) Elk River vs. St. Cloud Tech at 2 p.m.

Losers play again at 4 p.m. while winners advance to Wednesday semifinals at 8 and 10 a.m. The Elk-Tech winner meets the Wazata-Mahtomedi winner at 10 a.m. The final round Wednesday will be fifth place at noon, third place at 2 p.m. and championship at 4 p.m.

Elk singles qualifier Josh Gearou will face East Ridge’s Benjamin Van der Sman in the first round Thursday at 8 a.m., while the Elk doubles team of Sam Gearou and Nathan Chanthamontry faces Rochester Century’s Sahil Chhugani and Nicholas Aney.
