Two Spectrum girls, Kayla Zimmerman and Lorna Bechtel, qualified for the Class A state track meet with performances at Section 5A on Wednesday at St. John’s.
Zimmerman, a senior who placed fourth in the state in the 800 meters last year, earned a return trip placing second with 2:20.94, behind Albany’s Emily Weiss (2:19.18).
Bechtel, a freshman, placed second in high jump with a 5-1 leap. She tied Taylor Gregory of Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, who had fewer misses.
Bechtel also placed fourth in 100 hurdles (16.86).
Sarina Staurseth, Sting senior, scored in three events. She was fourth in triple jump (33-7), eighth in 100 hurdles (17.22) and ninth in 300 hurdles (51.80).
Becca Peterson, a senior, took fourth in the 3200 (11:46.72).
Two Sting boys placed eighth, earning one point each. They were Caleb Rieck in the 400 (54.22) and Zack Anderson in the 3200 (10:35.52).
The state meet will be held Friday and Saturday at Hamline University.
