Golf: Thunder’s Molinari finishes 2nd in conference season, team 4th

David Molinari finished second individually and the Zimmerman Thunder placed fourth as a team as the Granite Ridge Conference season ended Tuesday.

The the last of eight GRC meets, at Little Falls, the Thunder placed fourth among eight teams with 338 and Molinari took fourth with 38-39-77.

St. Cloud Cathedral shot 322 and won for the seventh time in eight meets. The season order of finish was Cathedral, Becker, Little Falls, Zimmerman, Albany, Milaca, Mora and Foley.

Molinari’s 39.6 average ranked second behind 39.1 by David Schneider of Albany. Molinari moved up from fourth last year. Zimmerman’s Max McNulty was honorable mention to all-conference, placing 12th with 43.3.

McNulty finished seventh at Little Falls with 38-44-82. Tyler Theisen was 20th with 44-44-88 and Nick Russell 28th with 44-47-91.

Next for the Thunder is Section 6A at Blackberry Ridge in Sartell on June 2-3.

Molari also placed sixth in the 22-team Brainerd Invitational with 74 on Friday at The Preserve. The Thunder placed 19th.
