Beatie was born on July 8, 1921, in Albertville, MN to Victor and Cecelia Praught. She graduated from Elk River High School in 1939. After high school, she worked at Fanny Farmer and Honeywell during WWII. She married James Forsythe on Feb. 14, 1946. Together they raised seven children in Vernon Center, MN until Jims death in 1963. She later moved to Mankato and worked at the Mankato Post Office. She finished her career as postmistress at the Vernon Center Post Office. She eventually moved to Elk River, although she was rarely home as she often traveled around the country visiting family and friends.
Beatie loved her family, fishing, gardening, sewing, reading, traveling, baking bread, and going to the casino. Family gatherings always included some sort of game — whether it was cribbage, Yahtzee, or charades, which usually resulted in her exclaiming, Oh, fiddlesticks! or Darn it! at some point. She was incredibly resourceful and passed on a genetic disposition for thrift shopping to her children. Her deep faith was evident in the way she lived her life. Her family and friends will forever miss her hugs, laughter, competitive nature, and enthusiasm for life.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Tom (Nancy) Forsythe of Benton, KY, Mary Mountain of La Quinta, CA, Colleen Forsythe of Mankato, John (Maureen) Forsythe of St. Cloud, Wendy Forsythe-Rappe of Santa Monica, CA, and Jeff Forsythe of Healy, AK; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; siblings, Victoria Wagner, Jeanne Johnson, Anna Mae (Russell) Anderson, Eileen Smith, Adrian (Mona) Praught, and Patricia Wendlandt; sisters-in-law, Beatie Praught, Mitzi Praught, Loretta Praught, June Forsyth; brother-in-law, Bob Forsyth, and her lifelong friend, Pat Butson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James; her son, Larry; and brothers, William, Benet, and Donald.
