Baseball: Thunder blanked by Bluejackets 2-0; playoffs start Friday

One day before starting playoffs, the Zimmerman Thunder lost their regular-season finale to Cambridge-Isanti 2-0 on Thursday in Cambridge.

Bluejackets’ pitcher Isaiah Filley blanked the Thunder on five hits, striking out 10. Collin Anderson singled home a run in the first inning and that would be all Filley needed.

For Zimmerman, Taylor Snow pitched three innings (one unearned run), Craig Steiskal two innings (one run) and Zach Nolan one scoreless inning.

“We entered the game with a game plan of using multiple pitchers,” said Chris Riley, Thunder coach, “to keep a mix on Cambridge hitters and save arms due to sectional playoffs starting on Friday.”

The Thunder (5-9) were seeded seventh in Section xxxx and will play at No. 2 Litchfield in a single-elimination game Friday at 4:30 p.m. The winner will play at Delano on Tuesday.

Riley said the Thunder were not aggressive at the plate which led to getting behind in the count.

“Our hitting has been improved this season by having an aggressive approach at the plate,” said Riley, “when we get behind in the count the strike zone gets bigger and makes it tougher to get a good pitch.”
