Softball: Kemmetmueller, Royals trip Rebels 4-1 in playoff opener

Katelyn Kemmetmueller struck out 14 batters as the Rogers Royals won their playoff opener 4-1 over Champlin Park at home on Tuesday.

The Royals (18-1), seeded No. 2 in Section 5AAA, will host No. 3 Spring Lake Park (19-2) on Thursday at 4:15 p.m. The Panthers edged Park Center 1-0.

Kemmetmueller, who gave up just four hits and one walk, helped out at the plate, too, in a four-run first inning.

Maddie Mikolich doubled to lead off the first and scored on a single by Elli Anderson. Kemmetmeuller, Melea Bruns and Kaitlyn Lloyd also had RBI hits in the inning.

Rebel starter Cassie Meyer settled down and blanked the Royals the rest of the way, giving up 10 hits and two walks, striking out none.

Kemmetmueller and Champlin’s Emma Lehnan were each 2-for-3 n the game.
