The Zimmerman High School band presented is spring concert on Monday evening, its last big event of the school year.

“Tonight was an unbelievable night of performances for both high school bands,” said director Tim Smith. “They played beyond all expectations.  I couldn’t be more proud or excited about the music we have here in Zimmerman.”

Ryan Olson, a senior who received the school’s John Phillip Sousa and Louis Armstrong band awards, performed a classical alto sax concerto.

The Wind Symphony performed “Video Games Live Suite” to a rousing standing ovation. The massive combined-bands performed the rousing grand finale of “Jurassic Park” and “This Too Shall Pass.”

A surprise tribute was given to Smith himself, when all the seniors performed his all-time favorite song “Danny Boy.”

“That was a super-secret-senior-surprise they’d been working on for quite a while,” Smith said.
