Ten Spectrum athletes qualified for the Section 5A meet by placing in the top four at a sub-section meet in Annandale on Tuesday. The sectional will be held May 28 at St. John’s University.
Sarina Staurseth and Lorna Bechtel each qualified in three events. Staurseth won the triple jump (34-8). Staurseth was second in 100 hurdles (17.14) with Bechtel third (17.14). Staurseth was third in the 300 hurdles (50.63) with Bechtel fourth (50.94). Bechtel was third in high jump (4-10).
Kayla Zimmerman won the 800 meters (2:23.82) with Olivia Rice fourth (2:34.93).
Maria Novotny was fourth in the 1600 (6:02.59), Becca Peterson fourth in the 3200 (11:51.07),
The boys had three second-places and one fourth to advance.
Caleb Rieck was runner-up in the 400 (53.37). Chad Schwinghammer was second in the 1600 (4:20.25). Zach Anderson was second in the 3200 (10:46.18). Scott Hagen was fourth in triple jump (38-5).
The Spectrum girls placed fourth and the boys fifth among eight schools. The Annandale girls and Maple Lake boys placed first.
