Tyler Midas belted a three-run homer and pitched the distance as the Foley Falcons handed Zimmerman a 5-1 loss on Tuesday in Zimmerman.
Midas’ homer, on a 3-2 pitch with two outs, over the short right-field fence at ZHS, capped a four-run second inning by Foley (11-3) against Thunder starter Zach Nolan.
Midas gave up just two hits, a double by Austin Tretbart and single by Zach Ruprecht. He got lots of help from Hunter Hammers with three diving catches in right field.
Ruprecht pitched the last four innings, allowing two hits and one run. Nolan gave up four runs, six hits and two walks in three innings.
“Foley is a pretty solid team. They will play Cathedral (Wednesday) for a share of the conference championship,” said Thunder coach Chris Riley.
“Overall today I was happy with our pitching. We threw first pitch strikes and Nolan just had a hit that would only have been a double in all high school fields except ours. Bottom line is we cannot win baseball games with two hits.”
Zimmerman will close the regular season Thursday at Cambridge-Isanti. They will start section playoffs on Friday against an opponent to be determined.
