Baseball: Elks lose to Rebels, beat Anoka

The conference co-champion Elk River Elks split a pair of non-conference games on the road Friday, losing to Champlin Park 7-1 in the afternoon and defeating Anoka 5-3 in the evening.

They were NWSC rivals but non-conference games because only the first games are counted as conference this year, due to numerous weather-related postponements.

The Elks are 10-6 overall and finished conference 8-2, tied for first with Anoka. They will play Coon Rapids on Saturday at home.


Champlin Park 7, Elks 1

Trevor Kaminski, senior  righthander, dominated the Elks, giving up just one hit and striking out 14. He also went 2-for-4 with two steals.

The Rebels had 10 hits, with five players collecting twlo each.

Austin Heuer took the loss for the Elks and had their lone hit, a single.


Elks 5, Anoka 3

Ben Johnson, in his third start, went the distance and picked up his first win. He gave up seven hits and three walks and hit one batter, but limited the conference co-chanps to three runs. In the seventh, he struck out the side with a man on base, and finished with five strikeouts.

Heuer hit a solo homer and knocked in another run with a double. Erik Nyquist had a single, double and triple in four at-bats, scoring a  run and driving one home.
