Softball: Royals clip Big Lake 5-1, face Buffalo next for Miss. 8 lead

Maddie Mikolich belted a two-run homer and Katelyn Kemmetmueller stuck out 10 batters as the Rogers Royals tipped Big Lake 5-1 Tuesday at home.
The Royals are 7-0 in the Mississippi 8 and 10-1 overall, sharing the conference lead with Buffalo, which is 6-0. On Wednesday, the Royals and Bison clash in a doubleheader starting 4 p.m in Buffalo. This was moved up one day due to an unfavorable weather forecast for Thursday.
Mikolich, junior catcher, homered over the left-field fence to give the Royals a 4-0 lead in the second inning.
After that, the Royals sputtered with runners on base, leaving nine stranded. Rogers was limited to six hits, with Emily Hanford 2-for-4 with an RBI and Madi Anderson 1-for-2 with two runs.
Kemmetmueller fired a five-hitter with no walks, getting the win over Jordan Lund, who walked four and struck out four.
