A runner thrown out at home ended the game as the Zimmerman Thunder lost to the Becker Bulldogs 6-5 at home Tuesday.
Mack Riley singled up the middle to lead off the last of the seventh and was bunted to second by Riley Graham. With two outs, Mitch Mossman hit a line-drive single to right field but Joe Ziwicki’s throw beat Riley to the plate.
“I pretty much had my mind made up to send the runner home on a single,” said coach Chris Riley, Mack’s dad, “but the hit was just too hard and a one-hopper to the right fielder who came up throwing and delivered a strike home. I hate for the game to end the way it did for my guys. They battled all game and we gambled at the end and lost.”
Mossman pitched the distance, giving up seven hits, four walks and a hit-by-pitch, striking out two. Mossman was 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI.
Taylor Snow was 3-for-4 and Riley 2-for-3, each with an RBI.
Big hits for Foley were RBI doubles by Noah Winkelman, Mitch Keeler and Ziwicki.
The Thunder (1-5 conference, 4-5 overall) face St. Cloud Cathedral on Thursday at Putz Field for a doubleheader starting 4:15 p.m.
