Softball: Royals win 2 of 3 against ranked teams at Lakeville North tourney

The Rogers Royals won two of three games against Class AAA top-ten ranked teams to place second at the Lakeville North Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

The Royals (7-1) beat No. 9 Lakeville South 2-1, beat No. 6 Prior Lake 7-3, and lost to No. 3 Lakeville North 6-1.

Rogers coach Jerry Bruns said he knows the Lakeville North coach from coaching summer softball teams and asked if the Royals could get into this year’s tournament.

“You always look for good competition that will help you go farther (in playoffs),” said Bruns.

Bruns said team obviously had a good tournament and their field was was “rock solid” in the first to games before making a couple mistakes in the finals.

Against Lakeville North, it was close for five innings before the Royals faded. Bruns said the team finished up at about 11 p.m. Friday, came home, got six hours sleep and got back on the bus at 6:45 a.m. “They kind of ran out of gas,” he said.
Rogers 2, Lakeville South 1

Katelyn Kemmetmueller fired a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts, marred only by five walks. Rogers had only four hits off Maddi Bianchi, who struck out five. Maddie Mikolich was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Rogers left 11 runners on base and the Cougars left eight on base.


Rogers 7, Prior Lake 3

The Anderson sisters each belted a home run, highlighting an 11-hit attack. Elli Anderson was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer, and Madi Anderson 2-for-3 with two runs and a two-run homer.

Melea Bruns was 2-for-3 (two doubles) with two runs, and Kaitlyn Lloyd 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Melea Bruns pitched four innings and got the win, allowing six hits, three walks and two runs (one earned), with one strikeout. Kemmetmueller three three innings, allowing one unearned run, striking out five.

Caitlyn Stone pitched the distance for Prior Lake and Justus Perry went 3-for-4.

Lakeville North 6, Rogers 1

Panther pitcher Maggie Dummet stymied the Royals, spacing out five hits and four walks, striking out four.

The Royals suffered five errors, and four of the five runs off Kemmetmueller in six innings were unearned. Kemmetmueller gave up five hits and three walks and struck out six. Bruns gave up an unearned run in the seventh.

Erica Rozell was 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBI for Lakeville North. Katie Parker had a triple and two RBI.
