There will be magical components to Youth Theatre Workshop’s rendition of “Cinderella” beginning Saturday with two performances at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Little Theatre in Elk River High School.
“The magic will be awesome,” director Eileen Anderson said. “Cinderella will go from her rags to a ball gown in one and a half seconds. The play is filled with magic.”
The cast of 87 youths includes six Cinderella’s as the play is double-cast and features the heroine as a child (Lauren Theisen, Averi Schrimers), a teen (Lexi Freund, Lindsey Strecher) and a young adult (Ava Maki, Emily Bowersox).
Other leading roles include Buffalo senior Michael Wegter as the adult Prince Christopher, ERHS sophomore Lauren Christ as the evil stepmother, and Sarah Noding, a home-schooled Big Lake student, as fairy godmother.
The script, modified by YTW alum Katie Wolf, will “fill in some of the background of the story,” said Anderson. The director adds that the music is a mix of Disney and Rodgers and Hammerstein tunes.
Along with the two showings Saturday, there will be two more Sunday at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., then next Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 and 6 p.m.
