Erik Nyquist pitched his third straight win and Brandon Meyer homered as the Elk River Elks thumped Armstrong 12-2 on Saturday in Robbinsdale.
Earlier Saturday, the Elks (4-2) were beaten by Park Center 5-1 in Brooklyn Park as they had two schedule two road games the same day due to earlier postponements.

Nyquist, senior right-hander with two previous shutouts, gave up two runs (one unearned) in the seven-inning game. His ERA stands at 0.33 per seven innings.
Meyer’s first inning two-run home was a line drive down the right field line.
“It was a rocket that cleared the fence in about two seconds,” said coach Ryan Holmgren. “The hardest ball I’ve seen him hit in three years.”
The Elks had 16 hits overall and scored eight runs in the fifth. Leadoff hitter Ben Johnson was 4-for-5 (double, RBI). Nyquist, Meyer, Jordan Hollom, Austin Heuer and Riley Givens each had two hits, with Givens driving home two runs.

The Pirates, with eight seniors who’ve started since 10th grade, are “talented and experienced,” Holmgren noted.
The Elks hurt themselves with three errors that led to four unearned runs behind Ben Johnson, who took the loss in his first varsity start.
“We didn’t match them defensively or with good at-bats,” said Holmgren, “and that will cost you in games against good teams.”
The Elks will play at Maple Grove on Wednesday and will host Andover on Thursday. Their scheduled game with Osseo on Monday was rained out and rescheduled for Saturday, when they’ll again face two separate foes, at home, Spring Lake Park at 1 p.m. and Osseo at about 4:30 p.m.
