Adam Nauth pitched six shutout innings as the Rogers Royals beat Big Lake 4-0 on Tuesday, improving to 3-1 and handing the Hornets (2-1) their first loss.
Nauth gave up four hits and a walk while striking out six. His last strikeout ended a bases-loaded threat by the Hornets in the sixth. Kyle Ellis pitched a scoreless seventh that ended with a ground ball double play.
Big Lake’s Sam Dokkebakken had the Royal blanked until the fifth when he made an error to lead Ellis reach base. Ellis stole second, was bunted to third, and scored on Caleb Reese’s sacrifice fly. Mike Terres singled, moved to third on Nauth’s single, and scored on a wild pitch.
The Royals got two more in the sixth on singles by Shane Smith, Nash Dalzel, and Bryanlee Santiago-Martinez (RBI) and a wild throw.
Nauth was 2-for-3 and Ellis 2-for-4.
