Mora and Zimmerman had a scoreless duel for six innings but the Mustangs broke through in the seventh to defeat the Thunder 4-0 on Monday.
Thomas Passilas twirled a three-hit shutout with five walks and four strikeouts for the Mustangs (2-0 conference, 2-1 overall) in Zimmerman.
Zimmerman’s Zach Nolan blanked Mora until the seventh, when the Mustangs got something going.
A walk, bunt single, and sac bunt set things up for Noah Moravec, who delivered a two-run single. The Mustangs added two more on a sacrifice fly and another single.
The Thunder (1-2 conference, 3-2 overall) had their chances. They left bases loaded in the second, and had two runners aboard in the seventh when Mora turned a double play to end the game.
“I felt like we were flat during infield/outfield (drills),” said coach Chris Riley, “and didn’t have the energy we had the last few games.”
Riley said the team would re-focus in a practice on Wednesday before resuming conference play against Milaca at home Thursday.
