Elk River Police Officer David Windels has been promoted to patrol sergeant. Mayor John Dietz administered the oath of office to Windels at Monday’s City Council meeting.

Windels is an eight-year veteran of the police department. Prior to that, he worked for the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office and the St. Joseph Police Department. He has an associate’s degree in law enforcement.

The City Council earlier approved the creation of a new special services sergeant position. A current patrol sergeant will be assigned to that position, which creates the sergeant vacancy that Windels now fills.
