Guidelines for filing for Elk River city offices

Filing period to seek office opens May 20


Elk River mayor and the ward 1 and 4 council member seats are up for election this fall.

All terms are for four years.

Any eligible person may become a candidate by filing an affidavit of candidacy with the Elk River city clerk between May 20 and June 3. A fee of $5 must be paid at the time of filing. Affidavits are available through the Administration Department at City Hall, 13065 Orono Parkway, Elk River.

Requirements for filing are:

•Must be an eligible voter.

•Must not also have filed for the same or any other office at the upcoming primary or general election.

•Must be 21 years of age or more, or will be 21 years of age or more when assuming office.

•Must have maintained residence in the ward for at least 30 days before the general election.
