Softball: Pipenhagen, Elks top Centennial 6-0 in opener

Defending state softball champion Elk River opened the 2014 season with a 6-0 conquest of Centennial on Thursday at Circle Pines.

Anna Pipenhagen was the leader both on the mound with a one-hit shutout and nine strikeouts, and at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs-batted-in.

Also contributing offensively were Ali Krohn (2-for-3, RBI), Michaela Bruns (1-for-3, double, RBI), Sydney Person 1-for-3 (RBI), and Marie Deaton (1-for-3, two runs).

The Elks will host Champlin Park on Monday.
