Despite giving up only two hits, the Zimmerman Thunder lost to the Becker Bulldogs 3-2 in eight innings in the season opener Thursday in Becker.
The Thunder outhit the Bulldogs 7-2 and got seven good innings from starter Zach Nolan, who allowed two hits and a walk, striking out six.
“We had four errors, which produced their first two runs,” said Thunder coach Chris Riley, “and we left a couple runs on the bases we should have had.”
Riley, making his debut has head coach, said it was a good opener otherwise.
“We had seven solid innings of pitching, made some fielding plays that needed to be made at that time, and turned a double play to stall a potential Becker rally.”
The Thunder tied the score 1-1 in the sixth when Lee Christopherson lined a single up the middle to knock in Mack Riley, who had walked and advanced to second on Taylor Snow’s bunt. Their other run scored on error sin the seventh.
Mitch Mossman pitched the eighth inning and gave up a run by the Bulldogs.
Mack Riley was 2-for-3 and Riley Graham 2-for-4.
The Thunder will play at Rockford on Friday.
