Anders Franke, former Elk River athlete, was named Goaltender of the Year in the North American 3 Hockey League.
Franke, 20, had a 28-4-1 record with the Flint Junior Generals, leading the league in wins and goals-against (1.73 average) and tying for the lead in shutouts (six).
The Zimmerman resident was a four-time all-conference goalie for the Elks and was named to the Star-Tribune’s all-metro first team his senior year. He has played with the Michigan team for two years.
The NA3HL has 21 teams and plays a 48-game regular season. Flint was one of the division winners along with Peoria, Ill.; Topeka, Kan.; and North Iowa.
Franke’s team finished runner-up to North Iowa in the playoffs and advanced to the Tier III Junior National Championships starting Thursday, April 3, in Simsbury, Conn.
