Emma Bates 4th in both 5,000 and 3,000 at NCAA indoor nationals

Boise State senior Emma Bates from Elk River placed fourth in the 5,000 meters and 3,000 meters at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships last week in Albuquerque, N.M.

Those were the fourth and fifth All-America first-team honors of her collegiate career. She also has two second-team honors.

Bates finished in the 5,000 meters in 16:25.66 on March 14 and the 5,000 meters in 9:17.37. Both events were won by Abbey D’Agostino of Dartmouth.

In her career Bates also has a pair of  second-team All-American finishes for a total of seven, which breaks the record for Boise State track athletes.

Bates was a state runner-up her final year of cross country at Elk River and led the Elks to the state title.
