About 3,000 parks and recreation community surveys will mailed out soon to randomly selected homeowners and renters in Elk River.
Parks and Recreation Director Michael Hecker said if people get a survey, he encourages them to fill it out and return it. The city needs to get least 400 back for the survey to be statistically valid.
The 13-question survey is part of the process of creating a master parks and recreation plan for Elk River.
Hecker said this is really the first time the city has done a comprehensive parks and recreation master plan. “We’ve done some surveys, we’ve done some planning, but this is the first time we’ve done everything combined to come up with the final product,” he said.
Focus group sessions on Thursday, March 27, are another step in the planning process. The sessions are:
•Community stakeholders: 3-4:30 p.m. and 5:30-7 p.m.
•Athletic associations: 7:30-9 p.m.
Invitations have been sent out, but the public is also encouraged to attend the focus groups. The focus groups will be led by staff from Hoisington Koegler Group Inc., the Minneapolis-based firm contracted to complete the master plan. All sessions will be held at Elk River City Hall, 13065 Orono Parkway.
